Message #109 1) Reef Ball is giving a presentation to the Charlotte Harbor Research Divers at 7:00 PM tonight at the Charlotte Research Complex in Punta Gorda, Florida. 2) Biosub in Venezuela wants to work the Reef Balls for a project. 3) The Coastal Waters Project, an NGO with a Gulf of >Maine/Georges Bank conservation and restoration focus. In collaboration>with the Nova Scotia-based Canadian Ocean Habitat Protection Society (COHPS), is are promoting designation of a transborder marine protected area alongthe "Hague Line" border seperating US and Canadian portions of the Georges Bank. The proposed Gates of Atlantis International Park will combine a National Monument designation on the US side of the Hague Line and a parallel Canadian Marine Protected Area on their side of the Hague Line,designated per the Canadian Oceans Act. The International Park Plan includes a significant no-take area of more than 500 square miles. They are interested in the application of Reef Ball systems there, both to induce regrowth of Northern Coral in this area, and to reduce damage to corals and other benthic habitats by mobile gear incursions.
