November 20 SPARS / Reefkeepers Information Night with theme "Where do we go from here?"
November 20 New SPARS web site launched
October 20 Shaw Cable from Victoria, BC aired a special on SPARS
October 12 Discovery Channel aired a special on SPARS
July 21 Peninsula News Review (Sidney BC) front page "It's #1 - in the World" (by Judy Reimche) SPARS and the Pier on Bevan project awarded "Best Overall Reef Ball Project in 1998" by the Reef Ball Development Group out of over 300 projects world-wide.
1998
November 1 Visit from Todd Barber, President of Reef Ball Development Group
October 17-18 Festival of Science and Technology event. SPARS conducted an informative 'Open House on the Pier' event with multimedia display and live video and audio of the reef.
October 8-11 CAUS (Canadian Association for Underwater Science) & AAUS (American Academy of Underwater Sciences) conference, Vancouver BC (poster presented)
October 1-4 Institute of Ocean Sciences (IOS), Sidney BC, Open House (display presented).
September 8 Earth Day Festival, University of Victoria (display presented).
Aug 30 - Sept 3 Coastal Zone Canada '98 conference, Victoria B.C. (paper presented)
August 28-30 Coastal Zone Canada Youth conference (display presented).
July 31 Sidney Whale and Historical Museum officially opens their permanent SPARS display.
May 19-22 Canadian Hydrographic Service acoustic bottom classification survey of reef and adjacent area.
March SIMS (Seabed Imaging and Mapping System) video mapping survey conducted.
March 12 Canadian Hydrographic Conference '98, Victoria BC (paper presented)
